Well .. as reported in my blog, my boat was NOT picked up in Costa Rica. I still don’t know the story, and may never learn the full story — but, it appears that my boat was near the weight limit for the crane, and that when it came time to load, the freighter captain didn’t feel good about loading my boat, and refused to do so. Our boat was already arriving in Seattle late for cruising Alaska. Now, I’m not sure what happens. Allegedly, there’ll be another freighter in three weeks, which has a bigger crane. I hope so!
My blog entry caused me to receive well over 100 emails. Several people even offered to crew for free if we deliver the boat on its own bottom up the coast. Thank you everybody! My cruising plans for this summer are ruined, but there will be plenty more summers, and I’m expecting we’ll still get the boat to Seattle early enough that some limited cruising will be possible in September (or, so I hope!)
